"Professionals working with SEND pupils may want to protect pupils from the reality of death."

Adults may feel that children will find the information too sad, or too difficult to process. There can be additional challenges for professionals such as:

• Communication
• Assumptions about what the young person may understand
• Confidence in how to deliver the information
• Concerns about the response from parents/carers
• Feeling emotional and grieving themselves
• The impact for children with life-limiting conditions
